<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve a field angle characteristic of a liquid crystal display using substantially the same compensator sheets which are aligned at right angles to each other and have two base bodies. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display includes a liquid crystal cell having polarizers positioned on respective surfaces and an optical compensator including two substantially identical integrated type optical components each having a base body, an alignment layer, and an anisotropic layer in order arranged between the liquid crystal and the respective polarizers, the two optical components is coupled together in parallel around the axis orthogonal to the surface of the base body so that the optical axis of the anisotropic layer of one component is arranged orthogonally to the optical axis of the anisotropic layer of the other component. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
