<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a retardation film which has excellent durability even when used with a large size of 15 inches or more, has excellent adhesion proper ties to a transparent resin substrate and to a layer formed thereon, of which the retardation value in the film plane is smaller than that in the film thickness direction and further of which the optical characteristics are uniform on a wide area. <P>SOLUTION: The retardation film having a layer containing an organic clay compound material dispersible in an organic solvent and a (meth)acrylic resin is provided. The retardation film turns out to have lower than 20 nm retardation value in the film plane. The durability of the retardation film is improved to a large extent. The layer containing the organic clay compound material and the (meth)acrylic resin is advantageously formed on a surface of the transparent resin substrate so as to become the retardation film. Furthermore, a liquid crystal display provided with the retardation film and a liquid crystal cell is provided. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
