<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an arc lamp and in particular, an ultraviolet mercury arc lamp to be used in a print drying system. <P>SOLUTION: This system reduces the stable lamp standby power to the order of 5% of nominal full power in order to reduce the effects of heat from the lamp on stationary substrate, and a method using this system is provided. In particular, a power controller for an arc lamp is provided and comprises means for changing the operating voltage and current of the lamp, and means for externally controlling the temperature of the lamp in order to maintain stable lamp operation at the changed voltage and current. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO</p> |
