PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the yield of a composite optical element having a resin layer without changing the method of forming. SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing a composite optical element includes: a molding process to press an uncured resin being the material for a resinous second optical layer in a specified region on a first optical layer comprising an optical material having a phase type diffraction face on its surface by using a die and to keep the gap between the die and the first optical layer to a designed thickness t of the second optical layer; and a curing process to cure the uncured material with the mold pressed thereon so as to fix the second optical layer on the first optical layer.
