PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which doesn't bring about degradation of unmagnification of an image, which is caused by a speed difference in a secondary transfer part, and distortion of the image without being affected by an increase in a linear speed caused by the thickness of an intermediate transfer belt, matching the transport speed of a transfer material to the increase in the linear speed caused by the thickness, sufficiently increasing the radius of a secondary transfer backup roll for the thickness of the intermediate transfer belt, neither sacrificing a separation capability. SOLUTION: On a condition of t/r≥0.01 where t is the thickness of the intermediate transfer belt and r is the radius of the secondary transfer backup roll, an angleθformed between a virtual line perpendicular to a line connecting the center of a secondary transfer roll and that of the secondary transfer backup roll and the intermediate transfer belt entering from above in the rotating direction of a nip part formed between the secondary transfer roll and the secondary transfer backup roll is set to≥0°and≤5°in a direction of winding around the secondary transfer roll.
