PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a drive pulley for a belt type continuously variable transmission capable of enhancing the durability of a V-belt by preventing it from bending reversely without using any additional member such as an idler pulley. SOLUTION: The drive pulley for the belt type continuously variable transmission is configured so that the V-belt is set around the drive pulley and a follower pulley forming a V-groove with the width variable between a stationary flange and a moving flange capable of approaching and separating from the stationary flange, wherein the axes of the two flanges are inclined so that the groove width maximizes in the belt outgoing position on the drive pulley and that the belt angle of the V-belt becomes equal to the groove angle of the drive pulley in the belt intruding position on the drive pulley.
