Provided are an optical information storage medium and a method of recording thereon. The optical information storage medium has a lead-in area, a user data area and a lead-out area, and data indicating a maximum and/or a minimu m writing speed, maximum and minimum writing speeds, or compatible writing speeds is recorded in a rewritable region of at least one of the lead-in are a and the lead-out area.
