PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To miniaturize a bar-code reader. SOLUTION: The scanning module is formed as a thin and flat module of low electric power consumption by reducing its size and weight. The reverse reflective optical scanning module includes a light source attached to a substrate of the scanning module and at least one reflection mirror for reflecting and reorienting the light beam for scanning along an optical path existing on at least a portion atop the module. The scanning beam is longer than the length in the side part of the module to be passed with the scanning beam during the course of heading toward a target. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
