<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an auto-tensioner device for an engine capable of certainly performing the restart of the engine with a starter motor by controlling properly the timing of locking the auto-tensioner so that it can not contract when the engine idling is stopped. <P>SOLUTION: At the time of restarting the engine by cranking a crank shaft by the starter motor through a belt after the engine idling is stopped, the revolving speeds of the crank shaft and the starter motor nullify and the belt stops moving, and the expanding/contracting position of the auto-tensioner to give a tension to the belt becomes neutral, and thereupon a solenoid is energized to lock the auto-tensioner so that it can not contract. Thereby the belt tension on the moment the starter motor is driven is adjusted to an appropriate initial tension, and the belt can be prevented from application of an excessive load or making a slippage. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
