PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately judge a physical features of an occupant according to the weight of the occupant. SOLUTION: A load sensor detects the weight the occupant who sits on a seat of a vehicle so that a physical features of the occupant can be judged. The weight of the occupant detected by the load sensor is allocated to a plurality of areas which are set corresponding to status (adult, child, child seat, and vacant seat) at predetermined time intervals. The final status is determined according to the number of status allocated to the each area during a determination time which is longer than the predetermined time interval. For example, if 7 instant statuses show adult during the determination time which is 10 times longer than the predetermined time interval, the final status is determined as adult. Therefore, an occupant's physical features can be accurately determined without influence of changes in the load sensor output due to noises and a temporary acceleration. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
