PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simplify parts and processing necessary for production of an optical encoder device. SOLUTION: The use of both an optical through beam solution for optically encoded element such as code wheel/code strip and a single non-folding common substrate having a light emitter and a light detector is enabled. This optical encoder device can be produced with a simple manufacturing work and a small number of process steps due to the excellent performance possessed by the light through beam solution for optically encoded element and the single non- folding common substrate. The further advantage is that the number of part items requiring alignment and mutual fixing work is less, compared with a conventional technique. Another advantage is that the production cost can be reduced by such simplification of the manufacturing work, reduction in process steps, and reduction in number of part items.
