PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an optically active compound (optically reactive chiral agent) having photosensitivity and capable of largely changing spiral pitch (distortion force) of a liquid crystal.

SOLUTION: The optically active compound is an optically active isosorbide derivative expressed by formula (I) [wherein R1and R8express each independently an amino, an alkyl, an aryl or an amino substituted with R15-CO-; R15expresses an alkyl, an alkenyl, an aryl, a heterocyclic group, an alkoxy, an aryloxy, NR16R17(R16and R17express each independently H, an alkyl or an aryl); R2to R5and R9to R12express each independently H, a halogen, an alkyl or an alkoxy; R6, R7, R13and R14express each independently H or an alkyl: Ar1and Ar2express each independently 1,4-phenylene or naphthalen-2,6- diyl substituted with one or more halogen atoms, alkyl groups or alkoxy groups].
