PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a camera of which focusing time is shortened by selecting an appropriate focusing control system at the time of focusing after zooming. SOLUTION: In a digital camera possessing a zooming lens, a focus evaluation value is obtained at the time of the completion of the zooming, and the focusing mode of an entire area scanning control system is selected when the focus evaluation value is smaller than a specified value, and the focusing mode of a mountain climbing control system is selected when the focus evaluation value is larger than the specified value.
