Method for provision of information or data to a user via a communications network, especially the internet, in which a user connects to a data server (6) by reading in a optical code, such as a barcode, with an optical reader. The code includes an address that directs the user computer directly to the server from which it wishes to retrieve information or data. The user computer has a program for converting the read in binary code to a server web address. An Independent claim is made for a system for provision of information to a user that comprises means for automatic inputting of a data server address.
