IR polarizer based on sodium silicate glass using dichroic absorption comprises parallel orientated ellipsoidal metallic particles uniformly embedded in a sodium silicate glass. All particles are of the same size and have an eccentricity large enough so that their long-wave maximum of the polarization effect lies in the IR region. An Independent claim is also included for a process for the production of the IR polarizer.
