PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal device nearly free from reduction of display characteristics, such as reflectance and a voltage holding ratio, and having excellent light resistance. SOLUTION: A light controlling layer forming material consists of a liquid crystal composition and a radically polymerizable composition and the radically polymerizable composition contains an oxime ester compound which is photo- cloven by light having 350 to 420 nm wavelength range. Decomposition of a liquid crystal compound due to UV can be suppressed and the liquid crystal device nearly free from reduction of display characteristics, such as reflectance and the voltage holding ratio, and having excellent light resistance can be provided by using the oxime ester compound as a photopolymerization initiator and polymerizing the light controlling layer forming material using UV on the long wavelength side having low energy.
