PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heat exchanger having compact construction preventing the inclination of a cover member, when assembled, and permitting sure brazing thereof. SOLUTION: In the heat exchanger, a joint portion 143 extending from an extension portion 142 formed on a cover portion 141 for closing an opening portion 121 at the end in the longitudinal direction of a header tank 120 is joined to a side plate 113. An opposite tube side end 113a of the side plate 113 near at least the extension portion 142 is formed on the side of a tube beyond the extension portion 142, and the joint portion 143 is formed extending from the end in the cross direction of the extension portion 142 to the side of the tube 111 to contact the side plate 113 at its outside wall 113b or inside wall 113c. The extension portion 142 has a stepped portion 142a for abutting on the opposite tube side end 113a of the side plate 113. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
