A device for relocating a lower jaw relative to an upper jaw having a first sleeve (1) with a first holder (4) mounted on its one end; having a second sleeve, (2); having an internal thread (14) in one of the two sleeves (2) and a matching external thread on the other sleeve (1), by means of which they are screwed together over varying lengths; having a third sleeve (3) whose one end, i.e. the end facing the first holder (4) is mounted on the second sleeve (2) and is adapted to dampen impacts that may act in the longitudinal direction; having a rod (9) arranged in the third sleeve (3) for longitudinal displacement; having a second-holder (5), which is mounted outside the third sleeve (3) on that end of the rod (9) which faces away from the first holder (5); and having a stop (20) provided on the rod (9) on or in the neighborhood of the second holder (5), and abutting directly or indirectly against that end of the third sleeve (3) which faces away from the first holder (4) and toward the second holder (5), the length of the rod (9) being selected to ensure that in its abutting position it will extend right into the first sleeve (1).
