<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem of the defect that an upper end opening cannot be opened allowing no more feed of refuse, because one end of a lid cannot be pushed down by hinderance of the refuse and the other end cannot thereby to be moved upwards, when the refuse fed into a trash can reaches to the vicinity of an upper end in an upper part container, in the trash can having a conventional opening and closing lid. <P>SOLUTION: This trash can having the opening and closing lid has a bottomed cylindrical body having the upper opening, and the lid arranged to close the opening. The lid is divided into two lid portions pivoted turnably in a direction along which upper faces thereof are approached each other and the lid portions are pivoted turnably by the bottomed cylindrical body. A deterring portion is provided to deter under faces of the divided lid portions from being turned to the direction approached each other.
