PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stacked polarizing plate that, when applied to a liquid crystal display device, exhibits excellent viewing angle characteristics and fur ther realizes thickness reduction.
SOLUTION: A stacked retardation plate is formed by stacking together: an optically anisotropic layer (A) composed of a polymer and exhibiting an in-plane phase difference of 20 to 300 nm and the ratio of a thickness direction phase difference to the in-plane phase difference of 1.0 or larger; and an optically anisotropic layer (B) composed of a non-liquid-crystalline polymer such as a polyimide exhibiting an in-plane phase difference of 3 nm or larger and the ratio of a thickness direction phase difference to the in-plane phase difference of 1.0 or larger. The stacked polarizing plate is formed by stacking together a polarizing plate and the stacked retardation plate. The stacked retardation plate has 10 nm or larger in-plane phase difference (Re) and 50 nm or larger difference between a thickness direction phase difference and the in-plane phase difference, the stacked polarizing plate provided therewith exhibits excellent optical characteristics.
COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
