PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating for a vacuum coater having good drying and film-forming properties and suitable for use in the vacuum coater for passing a material to be coated through a coating mist and coating the material. SOLUTION: A binder for the coating comprises a polymer emulsion obtained by carrying out emulsion polymerization of 1-10 wt.% of a hydrophilic group- containing monomer and 90-99 wt.% of other monomers in an aqueous medium and having 10-80°C glass transition temperature.
