PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a metallic coating material which can realize a good metallic appearance owing to good orientation of a luster pigment in a coated structure and can achieve a high coating efficiency owing to the capability of being applied to a broad area within a short time and to provide a method for coating therewith. SOLUTION: The metallic coating material is prepared by diluting a metallic coating material base containing a luster pigment, a nonvolatile solid, and a solvent with a diluent comprising a high-boiling solvent and a low-boiling solvent at a dilution rate of 150-500% and adding 5-10 pts.wt., per 100 pts.wt. resin in the coating base, tackifying resin. It is also possible to add 6-20 pts.wt., per 100 pts.wt. total resin, rheology controlling agent. The coating method comprises coating with the metallic coating material by using a bell-shaped coater. The flow rate of shaping air is 400-800 NL/min. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
