PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve such a problem with a conventional combustion state detection device of an internal combustion engine that the cause of a trouble in a misfire cannot be estimated and a large number of man-hours are required for repair.

SOLUTION: This combustion state detection means comprises an ion current detection signal output means for outputting ion current detection signals having igniting operation trouble determination signals so that the trouble as well as the combustion state can be determined based on the ion current detection signals.
