PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a navigation apparatus which shortens the time required for updating map data and which reduces costs for its updating by updating the map data for each region in a prescribed range. SOLUTION: The navigation apparatus comprises a display control unit used to display a map, a search part used to search a route up to a destination from a present place, and a data storage used to store the map data, and the map data are updated. The data storage stores unupdated map data together with updated map data. The display control unit guides the searched route on the basis of the updated map data when the present place is situated inside a region corresponding to the updated map data at the lowest level, and it displays the searched route so as to be guided on the basis of the unupdated map data when the present place is situated outside the region corresponding to the updated map data at the lowest level.
