A sideways pull-lay moves the sheet (5,6) into an alignment position (4). The pull-lay has at least two independently driven lateral pull-lays (2,3). When the sheet is left of the alignment position, the right side pull-lay is allocated a pulling function, and when the sheet is right of the alignment position, the left side pull-lay is allocated a pulling function.
