The actuators (10) has upper and lower stages each having a coil (13,14) that locate on magnetic yokes (15,16). Within the space between the stages is a pivot mounted (33) armature (17) that can move between the faces of the yokes when then coils are supplied. The armature is supported in a bearing (26).
