A particle used for an image display apparatus for displaying an image by encapsulating one or more kinds of particles between opposed substrates at least one of which is transparent, and by flying them. The particle has micro irregularities on the surface. An image display apparatus for displaying an image by encapsulating one or more kinds of particles between opposed substrates at least one of which is transparent, and by impressing an electric field from two electrodes with different potentials to the particles to fly them is also disclosed. The apparatus comprises particles each of which has micro irregularities on its surface.
