An apparatus accordi ng to the invention comprises a measuring apparatus for classifying a microorganism according to distinctive features, a database containing clinically and/or industrially relevant information of a plurality of microorganisms, and a calculation unit for comparing the results from the measuring apparatus to the information in the database for the annotation of the clinically and/or industrially relevant information to the microorganism , and in which the measuring apparatus, the database and the data analysis apparatus are provided with input and output means.
