PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an endoscope apparatus in which communications are performed between an image pickup part and a light source part without using a communication cable. SOLUTION: An endoscope apparatus 10 has a CCU 1, a light source device 2 and an endoscope 3 having a camera head 3A, an object (viable lumen) 29 is irradiated with infrared light modulated as communication signal light together with visible light from the light source device 2 through a light guide 6 of the endoscope 3. The visible light is reflected on the subject 29, and a subject pickup signal is captured through a CCD 4 and captured into the CCU 1 to obtain a subject. The infrared light is reflected on the object 29 as well, received by a light receiving part 20 of the camera head 3A as communication signal light and captured through a communication circuit 21 into the CCU 1, and communication information from the light source device 2 is recognized in a camera side control circuit 7.
