Mechanical locking device for the door (1) of a till comprises a lock, accessible from the external face of the door and a cam (2), which is integral with the lock, and activates a locking plate (4, 4'). The cam extends in a plane parallel to the door and has drive means that act on the locking plate. The latter is mounted on a plurality of sliding supports (5, 5') that are integral with the door.
