<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow users of needle assemblies to shield used needle cannulas accurately and effectively. <P>SOLUTION: The needle assembly has a hub member 30 supporting the proximal end part of the needle cannula and a shield member 40. The hub member 30 and the shield member 40 are interlinked with an extendable member 70 and a latch assembly 170 provides a releasable engagement between the hub and shield members 30 and 40. When the latch assembly 170 is in engagement between the hub member 30 and the shield member 40, the shield member 40 is in the retracted position. When the latch assembly 170 is released of engagement between the hub member 30 and the shield member 40, the shield member 40 moves to the protruded position by a compression spring 160, thereby covering the puncture tip 28 of the needle cannula 22. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
