PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a nucleic acid extraction method for efficiently and easily extract nucleic acids in a bio-specimen.

SOLUTION: Nucleic acids are extracted from the bio-specimen by mixing the specimen with an alkaline solution. The extracted nucleic acids can be used for nucleic acid analysis such as nucleic acid amplification and hybridization. This invention further provides a nucleic acid extraction reagent comprising the alkaline solution.
