PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for treating soil contaminated by dioxins which is low-cost, is convenient and has validated data. SOLUTION: Water is added to the soil contaminated by dioxins in the proportion of 1/1 or more and photoirradiation is performed while being stirred. Therein, an ultraviolet ray lamp, a fluorescent lamp or a solar light ray itself is preferably used as a light source. Alternatively, when a hydrogen peroxide adding treatment is performed in addition to the cleaning method, the cleaning rate is further accelerated. The hydrogen peroxide itself is not hardly degradable although it has some toxicity and, moreover, is easily degraded by the photoirradiation. Therefore, this cleaning method of dioxins is a simple and effective method for treating a massive quantity of the contaminated soil in a chemical plant site, an incineration ground and the bottom mud of canal/river, etc., of its surroundings.
