The hood lines the top of an ingot mould and adheres to the cast ingot being stripped together with it. The hood is pre-dried and is made from a homogenous mixt of about 10-45% of disintegrated cellulose, 15-30% clay contg. materials, 5-20% wood flour, peart or other suitable filler, 30% quartz sand and pref. 3% of an organic or inorganic binder. During ingot casting the hood materials are ceramically bonded changing into a porous fire brick material. The hood pref. consists of four plates, which are wedged by corner fitted wedges into the ingot mould top. The hood allows early stripping of cast ingot and prolongs the time during which steel remains liq. in the portion of ingot enclosed by hood. |
