PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for increasing a thickness which can uniformly increase the thickness of the edge part of a metal plate material with a simple device at small power. SOLUTION: This method is composed of a first process which presses with roller 14 and increases the thickness to the edge part 11a of the metal plate material 11 protruding a prescribed amount and fixed, a second process which simultaneously pressurizes with rollers 14, 14' and increases the thickness to the edge parts 11a, 12a of the metal plate materials 11, 12 oppositely protruding prescribed amount and fixed, and a third process which pressurizes with movable rollers 16, 16' by guiding a guide member 15 and increases the thickness to the edge part 13a of the metal plate material protruding a prescribed amount as arch-like edge part 13a and fixed. This apparatus is composed of the first process, in which the edge part of the metal flat plate can uniformly increase the thickness with a simple device of a lower die for fixing the metal plate material and the roller for pressurizing the plate edge at the small power, and the second process, in which the thickness to a plurality of edge parts of the metal plate materials can simultaneously be increased in addition to the effect in the first process, and the third process, in which the arch-like edge part can uniformly be increased, too in addition to the effect of the first process.
