PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for bending a metal plate by which the entire length of a part to be bent is uniformly heated all at once and the bending is performed at low cost when bending the metal plate. SOLUTION: In a bending device 1 for metal plates in which the bending is performed with upper and lower dies 7, 11, the bending device has a section for inputting working conditions such as the conditions of a work and the dies, a heat ray source 35 which is freely approachable to and recedable from a bend line in order to heat the bend line of the work positioned on the lower die 11, a heating temperature deciding means for deciding the heating temperature to which the bend line is heated with the heat ray source on the basis of the conditions of the work of the material, the thickness or the like from the bending condition inputting section and a means for operating bending data (D- and L-values) in order to perform bending work to the bend line heated with the heat source so that the work becomes the heating temperature decided with the heating temperature deciding means.
