PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing lactic acid by efficiently carrying out a cellulose saccharification and a lactic acid fermentation simultaneously, and to provide a machine for producing lactic acid by the method. SOLUTION: The machine for producing lactic acid by advancing the cellulose saccharification and the lactic acid fermentation simultaneously comprises a saccharifying fermentation tank 1A where a saccharifying zone 3 and a fermentation zone 4 are divided with a diaphragm 2 through which cellulose staple fibers and an aqueous solution are permeable, a charge line 5 through which a cellulose material is fed to the saccharifying zone 3, and an extraction line 7 through which a lactic acid-containing fermented liquor is extracted from the saccharifying zone 3 and/or the fermentation zone 4.
