PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate cracking or excessive shaving of rice by setting a washing time suitable for the quantity of measured rice in a rice washer without using water. SOLUTION: A predetermined quantity of rice is charged to a rice washing part 4 for washing by repeating, for predetermined times, an operation that rice in a rice storage 2 is measured by a rice measuring part 3 and transferred to the rice washing part 4. A rice washing operation is controlled by a control part 5 receiving signals transmitted from an operation part 6 and at the same time the state of the rice washing operation is displayed on a displaying part 8. The displaying part 8 has a 'non-rice' displaying means 9 that displays the nonexistence of rice when a rice-existence detecting means 7 detects the nonexistence of rice in the rice storage 2. When the rice-existence detecting means 7 detects the nonexistence of rice in the rice storage 2 during the rice washing operation, the rice measuring part 3 stops measuring rice, the control part 5 operates the rice washing part 4 for a period of time suitable for the quantity of the rice measured by the rice measuring part 3 and the 'non-rice' displaying means 9 does not display the nonexistence of rice until the completion of the washing operation and displays it after the completion of the washing operation.
