PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vacuum cleaner which is operated with a high output in any case of using an AC power source or a battery in simple configuration. SOLUTION: When power is supplied by a commercial AC power source (e), since a voltage from the commercial AC power source (e) is high regardless of whether a voltage of a secondary battery 6 is boosted by a converter means 34 or not, a motor-driven air blower 5 is driven by the commercial AC power source (e). When power is not supplied by the commercial AC power source (e), oppositely, the voltage from the secondary battery 6 takes priority and the motor-driven air blower 5 is driven by the secondary battery 6. When a great output is required for the motor-driven air blower 5 in the case of using the secondary battery 6, the voltage of the secondary battery 6 is boosted a little lower then or approximately equal to the voltage from the commercial AC power source (e) by the converter means 34, and applied to the motor-driven air blower 5, and the motor-driven air blower 5 is driven.
