PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a monitor information transfer in an optical fiber transmission system, without lowering the output power of an optical fiber amplifier. SOLUTION: The optical relay apparatus contains a monitor optical transmitter and a monitor optical receiver having approximately the same wavelength as that of the stimulation optical source for an optical fiber amplifier. A first optical multiplexer-branching filter forward multiplexes the stimulation light and branches a wavelength-multiplexed monitor signal and the monitor receiver receives it at the input of the relay apparatus. A second optical multiplexer- branching filter reverse multiplexes the stimulation light and monitor optical signals outputted from the monitor transmitter at the output of the relay apparatus. Thus the monitor information transfer can be realized in a simple constitution. |
