PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mold for continuous casting with which the casting at high speed can be performed by effectively preventing negative taper (thermal deformation) in a mold tube in the continuous casting with a simple means. SOLUTION: In the mold for continuous casting provided with the mold tube 1 having rectangular shape in the main cross section and a water jacket 2 surrounding the outer wall surface of this mold tube 1, on the outer wall surfaces of four wall parts except corner parts of the mold tube 1, vertical grooves 4 are arranged in the range of 10-400 mm, desirably, 35-250 mm (portion U) from the upper end of the mold tube 1 to downward. Further, a linear plate 5 is fitted only to the portion U in the inner surface of the water jacket 2 and the horizontal cross sectional area of a cooling water passage 3 at the portion U is made to the same or smaller in comparison with the horizontal cross sectional area of the cooling water passage 3 in a portion L which does not arrange the vertical groove 4.
