摘要 A rotary machine flow directing assembly features a plurality of blades, each comprising an airfoil 14 and platform 16. Flow passages 24 are defined between the blades, with platforms of adjacent blades defining an inner endwall 18. Formed within each endwall is a nonaxisymmetric trough 30, which extends from a point within the passage to a point aft of it, the trough helping to reduce the shock effects associated with the assembly, which may be located in either the compressor or turbine stages of a rotary machine. The amplitude of the trough varies, and the maximum 50 may occur adjacent the throat axial location of the passage. Furthermore, the airfoils may have a suction side 22, and the trough may feature a tip to end curvature substantially similar to that of the suction side of the airfoil. An endwall shape featuring a non-axisymmetric trough is also disclosed.
