PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method of a molded article which enables attainment of improved productivity and also efficient reduction of peeling and collapse that are brought about in a carbonized material, without using any adhesive, and moreover to provide the molded article which does not impede the characteristics of the qualities of the carbonized material, including moisture absorption, adsorptivity, heat insulation properties and sterilizing properties and which is excellent in the stability of the form, strength and dimensions after it is made the molded article and also facilitates disposal. SOLUTION: The carbonized material obtained by crushing carbonized charcoal to be in a required form is mixed with a natural fiber material. The mixed material (1) constituted of the carbonized material and the natural fiber material is filled in a prescribed quantity in a mold (2) for manufacture and then compression-molded by a compressor (6). After the compression-molded mixed material (1) is set in a pressure vessel, high-pressure water vapor is filled in the vessel and the material is left for a prescribed time in the atmosphere of the high-pressure water vapor to be settled and hardened. After the prescribed time passes, the pressure in the pressure vessel is released to be reduced to the atmospheric pressure and the mixed material (1) settled and hardened in the pressure vessel is dried.
