PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for examining cigarette paper sheets, with which the defect in the coating state of a low fire spreading substance (sodium alginate) applied to a long cigarette paper sheet wound in a roll form is simply and surely detected. SOLUTION: The apparatus for examining the cigarette paper sheets is equipped with a pair of electrodes which are arranged in an examination route for examining the cigarette paper sheets while unwinding it and comprises measuring the electric resistance of the cigarette paper sheet nipped between a pair of the electrodes and discriminating the presence of the defect in the coating state of the low fire spreading substance applied to the cigarette paper sheets from the electric resistance.
