摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel cell equipped with an excellent peripheral seal structure preventing air and fuel gas from leaking to maintain airtightness. SOLUTION: A paste-like seal material, including carbon black and PTFE dispersion, is filled in the perimetric end part of each porous electrode base material 1, thus forming air electrode and fuel electrode substrate filled seal layers 21, 23. Then, a catalyst paste is applied to a middle part of one surface of each porous electrode base material 1 to form air electrode and fuel electrode catalyst layers 2, 3, and thereafter, a sheet-like tape not heat-treated and made of silicon carbide power and a fluororesin, is bonded under pressure to the perimetric end of each porous electrode base material 1, thus forming air electrode and fuel electrode peripheral seal layers 22, 24 without gasps or steps between themselves and the respective catalyst layers. The substrate filled seal layers and the peripheral seal layers exhibit a sufficient function as wet seals impregnetedly holding an electrolyte, and they can completely prevent air and fuel gas from leaking from the electrode ends.
