PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic positioning device for precisely and automatically positioning a work pallet on a table. SOLUTION: A circular positioning hole 5 is opened in a work pallet 3. A plug member 12 to be inserted in the hole 5 is protruded from a base plate 2, wherein a slanting outer surface 13 tucking upwardly is provided. A thin cylindrical intermediate member 15 is arranged around the outer circumference of the plug member 12. A straight outer surface 16 inserted in the positioning hole 5, and a slanting inner surface 17 facing the slanting outer surface 13 of the plug member 12 are provided in the intermediate member 15. A plurality of balls 18 are inserted between both slanting surfaces 13 and 17. The intermediate member 15 is lockably moved downwards through a pulling member 21 with a disc spring 34, and on the contrary, the intermediate member 15 is releasably moved upwardly through the pulling member 21 with pressure oil in a hydraulic chamber 35.
