A high temperature reactor for recovering high temperature resistant components from waste containing organic materials comprises a depolymerization bath (4) followed by magnetic separator (10). Electromagnets (12, 24) are mounted over a series of rotating trays (15, 23) to attract metal particles that are then periodically released into a chute (13). An Independent claim is also included for the process of recovering metallic waste contaminated with organic materials by depolymerization in a high temperature reactor followed by early magnetic removal of the metal components while still in the high temperature zone of the reactor.
