<p>The bricks are piled loosely into similar columns within the core and the sealing rings enclose the gas coolant channels at their mating interfaces. Each ring has bayonet type fitting into a groove in the coolant channel allowing limited relative axial freedom. The fuel rods are also free axially but constrained from twisting by axial key(s) between studs in the wall of the channel. Similary keyway(s) in the inner wall of the ring, engage(s) key(s) on the end of the fuel rod. Local overheating due to gas leaks is prevented.</p> |
