PURPOSE: An optical information storage medium and a method for recording thereof are provided to record information on a disk at the optimum recording speed in a disk drive and reduce the defect rate. CONSTITUTION: An optical information storage medium includes a lead-in area, a user data area, and a lead-out area. The maximum rewritable speed is recorded on at least one or more rewritable areas of the lead-in area and the lead-out area. The rewritable area includes a disk zone having at least one or more disk ID information areas or reserved area. The maximum rewritable speed is recorded on the disk ID information areas or reserved area.
