COMPOSITION CONTAINING PHENOL COMPOUND DERIVED FROM CARTHAMI FLOS FOR TREATMENT OF HYPERLIPIDEMIA

PURPOSE: A composition containing an ethylacetate extract or a phenol compound of Carthami Flos as a main component is provided. The phenol compound including lignan, flavonoid and serotonin component, derived from the ethylacetate extract of Carthami Flos has excellent effects on improvement of lipid metabolism, and particularly treatment of hyperlipidemia induced from a deficiency in estrogen secretion. CONSTITUTION: Dried Carthami Flos is ground and defatted with hexane, followed by extracting with ethanol or methanol and concentration under reduced pressure. Thereafter, the extract is fractioned with ethyl acetate and concentrated under reduced pressure to give the ethyl acetate extract of Carthami Flos. The ethyl acetate fraction is separated and purified to give a phenol compound. The phenol compound is one of N-feruloyl serotonin, N-(p-coumaroyl)s erotonin, matairesinol, 8'-hydroxyarctigenin, luteolin and acacetin.
